Start: Cassone, Trentino, Italy

This circuit starts at the lakeside village of Cassone. Initially the ride heads south following Lake Garda offering fantastic views over the water and the opposing mountains. At the time of riding, it was peak holiday season so there was moderate traffic on the lakeside road. At Torri del Benaco, the ride takes a sharp left turn and climbs away from the lake through a series of hairpins through olive groves before a short descent. From here the ride then undulates through farmland and villages. Once on the east side of Monte Baldo, the ride heads north and the peak of the massif is dominant to the west. After you pass Ferrara di Monte Baldo there is a nasty 15% gradient climb though fortunately it is not too long. The road then opens out onto a grassy plateau and just when you think you have reached the 'top' there is a 19% gradient sign. So, with all the effort that you can muster, you have to push through 19% before the road flattens and then starts to descend. A wonderful view over Lake Garda and the mountains to the east is seen at the 'bottom' of this descent before the road then starts to head upwards (again). Finally a T-intersection is reached and the ride turns left to descend down into Besagno. Wide roads and sweeping bends make this a fun descent. From Besagno, bike paths give you safe travels to Torbole where again, the view over Lake Garda is amazing. From here, you follow the road south along the lake back to Cassone. And of course, a refreshing swim in the lake is well deserved!
