Start: Gruyere, Fribourg, Switzerland

This was a long day in the saddle but a great opportunity to discover this little pocket of Switzerland. We started below the Gruyere castle and began the climb to Jaunpass. After the initial climb up to the village of Charmey, the road flattened out passing through a lush green valley before reaching Jaun and the final 7 kilometres of the climb. After 7 kilometres of descending, you arrive at the village of Reidenbach and join a more major road. The road continues to descend to Wimmis, though there is some traffic. Nevertheless, this is 23 kilometres with a false flat in your favour and a super smooth road adjacent the amazing River Simme. At Wimmis you leave the main road and ride into another wonderful valley surrounded by mountain peaks. The pain starts when you hit the village of Wattenwil. You have the choice of two roads to get out and let's just say, both looked nasty! The ascent, although short was painful, and takes you into the Gantrish Nature area. This section was characterised by natural forest. As the loop closes on the ride, you have the pleasure of riding along the Lake Gruyere before returning to the Gruyere castle. This ride is long with 141km and 2263m ascent, but quite diverse with the landscape that it traverses.
