Start: Chateau-Ville-Vieille, Hautes-Alpes, France

This is an out and back ride to the highest international paved pass of the Alps at 2744m. The ride starts at Chateau-Ville-Vieille and after only 1 kilometer, the gradient jumps to 7%. As you follow the contour of the mountain to the south-east, you reach a point where the valley to St-Veran opens in front of you offering marvellous views. On reaching the quaint village of Molines-en-Queyras, there is division of the road and the ride follows the route to Italy. After a few hairpins, a massive alpine valley greets you. It is an absolutely stunning view. The road continues straight, adjacent a flowing mountain stream, before a few nasty hairpins interrupt the tempo. But honestly, as you zig and zag, every turn gives you nothing but sheer exhilaration as you soak in the views. The col is quite narrow, so there is not much at the top. From here, the ride returns the way it came. The Col d'Agnel was an absolute delight to ride. To put this ride into perspective, one of our favourite rides is the Col du Tourmalet and we think this ride is right up there!
