Start: Cluses, Haute Savoie, France

The Circuit de la Ramaz starts in Cluses and takes you over the Col de la Ramaz (1559m). Initially, you head out of Cluses towards the village of Taninges. This road is moderately busy and the road is shared with some larger vehicles. Once through Taninges, the climb to the col begins. You do need to watch out for a small road sign with 'Col de la Ramaz' on the left hand side of the road – it indicates that you need to turn right. If you reach the Super U supermarket, you have missed the turning point. The ride ascends through farmland and forest, with some steep sections. At the ski village of Le Praz de Lys the road flattens and over your shoulder to the east, views of the great alpine mountains can be seen. On the other side of the col there is a large picturesque basin that you skirt around until you reach Sommand. From here the descent is steeper and you pass through the Tunnel du Sommand - a rear flashing light may be useful here. The gradient eases and the ride continues through a number of small farming villages and a wide open valley. On reaching the valley floor at St-Jeoire the ride undulates back to Cluses. In summary, a pleasant loop of 70km and 1489m of altitude gain
