Start: Benaojan, Malaga, Spain

This ride starts at the 'bottom' of the village of Benaojan with a pretty nasty climb to the ‘top’ of the village. Once through the village and onto the road the ride undulates, passing over the Alto de Benaojan (707m) and Cortes de la Frontera (638m) with some impressive views over the adjacent valley.

Although the roads in Andalucia are generally in good condition and quite perfect for road cycling, the road down into Ubrique from the Alto de Barrueco (751m) was quite treacherous with large deep cracks. The cracks were also quite difficult to see with trees shading the road. Once passed the white village of Ubrique there was a moderate ascent up and into the Parque Natural Sierra de Grazalema to arrive at Puerto de los Alamillos (832m). The ruggedness of this landscape is breathtaking. There were a few undulations as the ride passes through olive trees and cork trees before returning to the village of Benaojan.

The small village of Benaojan is a short drive from Ronda. This ride could be started in Ronda though this would add an additional 16km to the ride which descends down to Benaojan. I only make note of this so you can appreciate that a return to Ronda requires a 16km ascent. The ride from Ronda to Benaojan requires one to travel on the A-374 and MA-7401 which are fairly busy roads.
